APU PERU: Benefits for you

Thinking about our experience and helping you with your budget, we are working on creating a network of partners that will offer you discounts or different kind of benefits so that you can have more for less. Our goal, is that you can have great monthly savings in your monthly budget, so that, living in APU will be more convenient for you :)

You will have access to all the benefits, showing your APU ID.

Your Budget: How much will you spend in Peru per month?

In the following chart, you will find a regular monthly budget for an international student living in Lima and travelling once per month. We also show you where you can get benefits with our APU network, and how much you can save of the regular budget. Information is realistic, based on past students budget.

In green, are the topics where we already have some contacts, and in yellow are the topics where we are looking for benefits for you right now. Increasing out network of partners is daily activities for us, and we will offer you more and more contacts for you :)

In Lima:

Rooms: In the international student houses, the room prices per month vary between 750 to 950 soles per month. Let's use an average of 850 soles per month.

Supermarket: We are considering that you will have breakfast and dinner at home. Have great breakfast with milk, cereals, juge, bread, and dinners with pasta, rice, a pice of meat, vegetables, will demand you a budget of 12 soles per day in average.

Public Transport: One trip cost s/. 1.oo soles. If you take a maximum of 4 buses per day and you go to school 4 days per week, you will have to consider s/. 100 soles per month in public transport.

Cellphone: Calling in Peru cost approx. s/. 1.50 soles per minute if you have a pre-pay plan. So, a pre-pay card of s/. 20 soles per week is a must in your budget, if you want to stay in contact.

Restaurants: In Lima you will find menu starting at s/. 5 soles, but a regular menu will probably cost s/.10 soles. Considering that you will eat out once per day, and probably you like to save some money during the week for going to a nice restaurant during the weekends, a budget of s/. 300 is fine but a bit short.

Party!: It is, after the room, the second biggest amount in your budget. We are considering that you guys are just going out 3 days per week, and you will spend only s/. 50 soles per night including public transport (taxis), food after party, and drinking in the house and in the bar. A litre of beer in a restaurant or bar cost in average s/.15 soles. So, 50solesx3daysx4 weeks = s/.600 soles.

Travelling:

All students so far have visited during their time in Peru: Cusco, Arequipa, Nazca, Paracas, Huaraz, Mancora, Iquitos and Puno as a minimum. So considering one travel of 4 days and 3 nights per month is pretty conservative, but realistic.

Hotel: There are hostels for all budget starting at s/. 15 soles (depending on the city) until great hotels like Marriot, Sheraton, etc. You can say that if you are looking for travelling for less, a hostel at s/. 25 soles per day in fine.

Restaurants: Outside Lima is, in some cases, twice cheaper thatn in Lima, so, if you are not visiting the most expensice places during your trip, you can have breakfast, lunch and dinner for s/.30 soles per day.

Buses: The cheapest option for travelling. But, please, take care a lot with the bus company that you will choose. There are informal buses that are cheaper than the formal companies, but security standars are also different. One trip of 1000km in a good formal company, using the standar service cost in average s/. 80 soles.
