APU PERU: Exchange student house - residence , Lima Peru

How could an idea from three guys change my life?

APU is a quecha word (inca's language) that means 2 concepts in just 1 word:

  • First it means MOUNTAIN. Incas adored mountains as one of their gods.

  • Second it means GOD. The Apu was the god protector of every town in the Inca's Empire.

So the APU was something like the god that protected the people in the town. That is what we are trying to do with you guys: Helping our friend giving information, creating an international family in our houses, organizing activities so that you can adapt easier to our country, and creating friendships for the long term.

I started running APU in the 2001 with two of my best friends: Javier Loyola (El bat) and Pablo Oblitas (Benji). We were finishing our time in AIESEC, so after a brainstorming about how we can keep getting to know people from around the world, we decided to run a student house in Miraflores, and we rented the first house (APU1) in february 2001. Now, we have taken different paths: Benji is living in Europe after finishing school in Maastricht, and Bat finished school in Peru and he is working for a Swiss International Company in Lima.

So the house that started with only 9 people, is now a student houses network that is receiving more than 80 new friends every year, nice eh! ;)

I believe that APU is more than its houses. In my mind, we are doing APU in any camping, any party, any trip, when I can see people interacting and laughing; organizing parties in Europe, 2 or 3 years after their time in APU.

We are doing APU when someone told me that somebody who lived in APU got married and people who lived together in APU were present in the ceremony, or when somebody is traveling and met people who lived in APU before, and go to a bar to drink a beer and have fun.

I look at all these years with APU and remember all the people, amazing people, that I met; and I realize that I'm lucky because I'm living my life on the way that I always wanted to live it: Filling my life with great moments with amazing people.

Oh well! I wrote too much, but if you want to know more about APU, as soon as you are in Lima we can go to drink a coffee, or a beer ;) and I would love to tell you more about this crazy 8-year-aventure called APU!

Yours,

Qcha (Luis Eduardo Falcón)
